Let’s Talk Small Business on Midtown Business RadioX Spotlights Georgia Power and Energy Awareness Month

ATLANTA, GA–(Marketwired – October 23, 2015) – Let’s Talk Small Business hosted a special episode in honor of National Energy Awareness Month. Co-hosts Stacey Key and Cassius Butts sat down with “The Energy Twins” Jim Earley and Steve Morton from Georgia Power, A Southern Company, to talk about energy conservation and sustainability in the state of Georgia.

Founded by The White House 24 years ago, National Energy Awareness Month is a national effort to underscore how important energy is to our national prosperity, security, and environmental well-being. Additionally, this year President Obama issued the challenge to not only increase awareness for energy efficiency, but to also find ways to do something about it — thereby naming October Energy Action Month.

Georgia Power is committed to delivering clean, safe, reliable and affordable energy at rates below the national average, and maintains a diverse, innovative generation mix that includes nuclear, 21st century coal and natural gas, as well as renewables such as solar, hydroelectric and wind. During the program, Earley and Morton announced a new partnership with the Georgia Minority Supplier Development Council (GMSDC) in support of National Energy Awareness Month, that will include programs and events designed to enhance minority and small business awareness of energy efficiency, renewables and sustainability.

As Energy Systems Team Manager, Earley and his team help small businesses improve energy efficiency by performing commercial and industrial audits statewide. Morton is a Commercial Energy Efficient Program Manager and is responsible for implementation and oversight of energy efficiency measures for the Commercial market. Morton talked about the growing interest and use of solar power as a more efficient option for energy.

“Solar has become a big focus as an energy source. Customers are wanting to put that on their homes, and Georgia Power is making major investments all over the country in solar and wheeling that into the state and bringing that to our customers. We have displays on several of our facilities, including our headquarters.”
