4. As of this writing we still have 2 Full YE Scolarships available for The Beach House — and I’ll be in Pensacola early next week on a scouting trip to nail down some key on-site logistics.

As I mentioned last week . . . One of the most rewarding aspects of the Beach House Experience is exposing young entrepreneurs to highly successful people doing work that matters. (They participate in their own unique Beach House Experience, and have ample opportunity to interact with our other participants.)

5. One of the biggest highlights of the week for me was Thursday’s KSU Shore Entrepreneurship Center Board of Advisors meeting. Congrats Chis Hanks and team for securing a Major in Entrepreneurship !!!

Digging Companies Out of Debt on Business RadioX

“On The Money” Features Help for Struggling Businesses

DULUTH, GA–(Marketwired – May 19, 2016) –  On the May 4, 2016 edition of “On The Money” radio, host Joe Moss looked at a topic many business owners would rather ignore: how to bail themselves out of financial trouble. Clay Westbrook, who helps companies in these very situations, discussed his experiences in business, as well as his new book Debt & Circuses.

As the owner of Ascent Strategy Group, Westbrook has helped business owners and their advisors successfully negotiate their financial issues. Using proven negotiation skills, Ascent has worked out bad business loans and debt of over $4 million.

Westbrook says the process can seem daunting, but is easy to reach a resolution.

“Usually it’s as simple as having clients understand their own financial situation,” he explained to “On The Money.”

Ascent works with businesses in all different industries and, Westbrook says, helps them to battle the same challenge: an adversary with large or unlimited resources with which to exploit a struggling corporation’s weaknesses.

Cyber Security Duo Warns Midlevel Companies on Business RadioX

CEO Exclusive Radio Features Must-Listen Tips for CEOs and C-Level Execs

SANDY SPRINGS, GA–(Marketwired – May 18, 2016) –  CEO Exclusive Radio recently tackled the always timely and increasingly important topic of cybersecurity. Host Soyini Coke was joined by Mike Potts and David Cocchiara of Lancope, as they looked at ways that midmarket companies can protect themselves against cyber criminals.

Potts, who joined Lancope in 2010 as the company’s president and CEO, has more than 25 years as an executive in the technology industry. Cocchiara heads up all of Lancope’s financial and operational functions, as well as leading the company’s dynamic business development and customer success teams.

The duo told Coke they have found there are various breeds of cyber criminals ranging from cause-oriented hacker-bullies to highly-structured, financially driven cybercrime organizations. Today’s cyber thieves are looking, they say, for information that has a longer shelf life than credit card data. This new kind of theft would target things like employee emails or CEO health records that could potentially be used for blackmail.

Potts and Cocchiara say midlevel CEOs often think their companies are too small to be targeted, but the opposite is true; cyber thieves see these companies as easy targets with backdoor entrances to the larger companies with whom they do business.

Cocchiara explains midlevel companies shouldn’t wait for the wake-up call.

“It only takes seeing one of your peers on the news or reading about them in the papets so many times before, as a CEO or C-Level executive, you’re going to start asking the question ‘Are we secure?'”

They say the solution is easy for midlevel companies willing to step up their vigilance in the following areas:

– Education

– Executive participation

– Information security

– Crisis response

In December 2015, Lancope was acquired by tech giant Cisco for $452 million.

To learn more about Lancope and its strategies for keeping midlevel companies safe from cyber crime, listen to the entire interview on CEO Exclusive Radio.
